Review of The Last Bear by Hannah Gold

Updated: 5 days ago

Hi! This week I am reviewing The Last Bear by Hannah Gold. She also has another book called The Lost Whale with a different main character. This is my review:

The Last Bear is about April who is an eleven year old girl who is passionate about looking after animals. Her dad is a weather scientist. He is invited to go on a trip to Bear Island (which is off the coast of Norway), and as April will have no-one to look after her she has to go with him. April thinks it will be great fun because her and her dad will be able to spend more time together. But her dad has to work all the time. One day April goes exploring and discovers that there is one last bear living on the island. He is all alone because humans killed all the other polar bears. That is why Bear Island is called Bear Island, because it was once full of polar bears. April decides that her mission is to find Bear a new home with polar bear friends.

I recommend this book for 8+ years because some parts are very sad. But this book shows that we need to look after animals because some of them have lost their homes because of us or because of natural causes. When I read this book it made me feel like I could see everything happening.

Is this a good book?

Yes this is a good book because the way that Hannah Gold writes it makes you feel like you are really there and what also makes it a really good book is that April is really determined to find Bear a new home.

Is this book funny?

This is not a comedy book but there are funny parts like the fact that polar bears usually eat meat and fish but Bear eats peanut butter and oat biscuits!

What would I rate it out of 10?

I would rate it 9 1/2 stars because it is a well-written book and it has a good message which is that we need to look after animals and their homes because how would you feel if an animal came and destroyed your home? I don't think you'd be very happy about it!

If you have read this book, please write me a comment on what you think about it and if you have not read it then I think you should! I look forward to writing another blog next week. Bye!
